Rumana’s husband arrested
Police arrested Syeed Hasan Sumon, who allegedly tortured his wife Rumana Manjur, a teacher of Dhaka University, mercilessly 10 days ago, in the capital Wednesday afternoon. A team of detective branch (DB) arrested Sumon at Mugda area at about 2:10pm, Masudur Rahman, additional deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told the media.
The alleged torturer has been kept at the DB office on Mintoo Road in the capital. Police officials are scheduled to hold a press conference in the afternoon and may produce Suman before the journalists.
Sumon allegedly tortured Rumana, an assistant professor of International Relations at the DU, ruthlessly on June 5 at her father's house in the city's Dhanmondi.
A case was filed against Sumon with Dhanmondi Police Station the next day.
Police raided several places including the accused's Paribagh residence in the city over the past few days to arrest Sumon but could not trace him.
