Govt has failed miserably: Khaleda

The Awami League-led government has failed in the economic sector miserably, she said, adding that the price of fertiliser went up significantly causing immese sufferings to the farmers.
The opposition leader said these while presenting her party's alternative budget proposals for the upcoming fiscal at a city hotel Wednesday afternoon.
Khaleda dedicated a significant part of her briefing to portray what she said the government’s “failure” in implementing the 2010-11 FY budget, especially the annual development programme (ADP).
Apart from the country’s economic situation, the BNP chief touched upon price hike of essentials, especially food stuff and fertiliser, foreign aid, transit to India, risk of macro-economic instability and state of power and energy sectors.
High price of fertiliser caused a 40 percent increase in agro-production costs, leaving a very bad impact on production, she alleged.
The government promised, in its election manifesto, to keep inflation rate within 6.5 percent, she said, adding that the average rate currently is 8.54 percent.
Saying that the BNP started the practice of placing budget proposals of its own last year, Khaleda Zia regretted that the government did not pay attention to the proposals.
